cogitations mean in the King James Bible?

Hebrew: רַעְיוֹן —transliteration: ra`yown (rayon) —occurrences: 9 (in Daniel and Ecclesiastes)

This Hebrew word appears only in Daniel 2:29-30; 4:19; 5:6; 7:28; Eccl. 1:17; 2:22; and 4:16. It is translated as “cogitations” only in Daniel 7:28 KJV, AKJV, 21st Century King James Version, the Geneva Bible, and the BRG Bible.

Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart. —Dan. 7:28 KJV

In Daniel, this word refers to one’s thoughts, earnest mediation, thinking deeply about something—contemplation.

The New King James Version says,

“…my thoughts greatly troubled me…” —Dan. 7:28 NKJV excerpt

The word cogitation comes from the Latin word cogitatus (to think).
