Lo-Debar
also known as: Lo Debar
Hebrew: לֹא דְבַר —transliteration: Lo' Dbar —meaning: “no word,” or “nothing”; or possibly “no pasture”
This is a town in Gilead not far from Mahanaim (2 Samuel 17:27), north of the Jabbok River (2 Sam. 9:4-5).
It is probably identical with the town Debir in the Tribe of Gad (Joshua 13:26).
It was a pagan Canaanite city destroyed by the army of Joshua during the conquest of Canaan.
During the time of David, it was the home of a man named Machir who cared for Prince Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth, who lived him here for a time.
Ammiel, father of Machir, also lived here.
Lo-debar may be located at either Khirbet Umm ed-Dabar or Khirbet ed-Duweir (Tel Dover).
