Nain
also known as: Nein, Nin, Naim
Greek: Ναΐν —transliteration: Nain —possible meaning: “charming,”“green pastures,” “lovely”
This is the name of a town of Galilee near the gate of which Jesus raised to life a widow’s son (Luke 7:11-17).
This village still exists in Israel in the Lower Galilee region, southwest of the Sea of Galilee and south of Nazareth. It is today an Arab town called both Nein (نين) (or Nin, Nain, and Naim) and covers about 250 acres, although it has been larger in the past.
It is a short distance southwest of Mount Tabor and 8.7 miles (14 kilometers) south of the city of Nazareth.
At the foot of the slope on which it stands is the great plain of Esdraelon.
This was the first miracle of raising the dead our Lord did, and it excited great awe and astonishment among the people.
