Sheep Gate

This is the name of one of the gates of the ancient city of Jerusalem mentioned by Nehemiah (Neh. 3:1; 3:32; 12:39).

It was in the eastern wall of the city, and this gate served as the starting point for Nehemiah’s rebuilding of the walls and gates of Jerusalem and the rebuilt Temple (aka Second Temple).

Then Eliashib the high priest arose with his brothers the priests and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They consecrated the wall to the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel. …Between the upper room of the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and the merchants carried out repairs. —Nehemiah 3:1; 3:32 NASB

The existence of Sheep Gate at the time of Jesus may be implied in the Gospel of John, and, if so, this may be the same gate.
