The goal of "1080 Snowboarding", a sports/racing game from Nintendo, is simple. Find the right snowboard—one with the right combination of balance and speed—and win a snowboarding race. I have played this game quite a few times and have yet to win a race. A good player with quick reflexes might be able to throw in a few snowboarding tricks on his way to the finish line. Snowbanks, the laws of speed, velocity and gravity, and an inability to interpret the graphic scenery are the reason for my downfall. The map would show my opponent's position near the finish line while I was stuck in a snowbank somewhere off the beaten path.

The graphics in the game—lakes, hilly dunes, snow caves—make the game quite pretty, but I often found it hard to interpret some of the graphic effects. Some of the art is a bit unclear. And the distance and depth of some obstacles can be easily misconstrued. Combine these problems with the swift pacing of the race (caused by steep hills and the slipperiness of the snows) and one may experience frustration and a quick ending to the game.

“1080 Snowboarding” can be played by one or two players. Recommended for those adults and kids whose reflexes are lightning-fast.

This game has GREAT graphics, and good gameplay. For a while. It will get boring fast. The only way that Nintendo can save this game is to allow for more than two snowboarders. How about a real race? My Ratings: [5/2]
