Invisible Enemies

“Invisible Enemies” are all around us. Christians have heard it said and we know “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12). don’t stop there. Check out verse 13:

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

The quote above by C.S. Lewis, well-placed at the end of the film, points out an all-too-common problem. People, sadly both Christians and non, are blinded to the reality of spiritual warfare.

“Invisible Enemies” sets before us a group of college buddies: Jackson, Dre, and Cindy. One day Jackson comes upon a pair of strangle spectacles with a Latin inscription. He discovers that these special glasses give him a look into the spiritual dimension of things happening right around him. He envisions his neighbors full of hatred and fighting, hears the battle plans of Satan and his demons deceiving the masses, and learns that his very own sister is headed down the road of destruction soon to fall victim to the Evil One.

This timely hard-hitting film brings up many excellent discussion points about the spiritual world. Is there a hell? Who does the Christian belong to? Can God forgive someone who has done such terrible things? How can one be prepared for spiritual battle? “Invisible Enemies” is perfect for youth groups from junior high to college. Warning: some scenes showing demons can be quite frightening for children.

Technically “Invisible Enemies” is excellent: the acting is superb with no weak characters, the script is powerful and real, great direction, and the use of film instead of video gives it a real professional feel. Kudos to Bill Muir of Youth for Christ (also the creator of “Without Reservation,” “The Crossing,” “One in a Million,” and “Shattered”). Be sure to check out “Invisible Enemies” and be ready to handle some potentially lifechanging discussions if you watch it with others!
