Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “Longboarding soul-surfer Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) returns to Malibu for the summer to find his cool hometown vibe corrupted. New sponsorship demands Addington to expand into Virtual Reality Video Games and Reality TV. Unwilling to participate in this new digital-reality, he chooses to spend his summer surfing his home break. But in a twist-of-fate, the waves go flat and stay flat. Out of money, his expense-accounts canceled, and betrayed by his buddies, Addington is backed into a harsh corner. He must endure the insanity that comes with no waves or give into “the Man” and his new, reality-altering machines.
Aided by his manager (Woody Harrelson), his mentor (Scott Glenn), his guardian-angel (Willie Nelson) and his summer lover (Alexie Gilmore), Addington has a chance of keeping his cool, but it’s not going to be easy. The dude needs a wave, and there's never been a drought like this.”

It also has almost no surfing in it whatsoever (a big disappointment). In fact, it is about a long stretch of time where there are no waves (and no plot). In addition, it is much more about marijuana and a bogus set-up of a reality television show about so-called surfers than it is about surfing. It portrays all surfers as druggie losers (offensive to me); it portrays all women as sluts, and it portrays life in general as one big cloud of dope.
Do not let your kids watch it. I was not high while watching it, but even stoned people probably would find it totally boring. I am surprised that a man of Matthew McConaughey's talent in other films did not recognize that this film has no story and refuse to work on it. Not even good as a vanity piece. The part that the producers think is funny (the reality show drug den set-up) is not funny. NOT FOR CHRISTIANS. NOT FOR TEENAGERS. NOT FOR HUMAN BEINGS. Watch a few surf documentaries like “Endless Summer,” “Walking on Water,” etc. They are much much better. Worse than any stupid reality show you have ever seen.
