“gutter-mouthed… unfunny… poor production values…”

Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “Beverly Hills is about to get real dangerous… The Black family is getting out of Chicago in hopes of a better life. After Carl Black (Mike Epps) comes into some unexpected funds, he takes his family and leaves the hustling lifestyle behind for something better. Carl, his new wife Lorena (Zulay Henao), son Carl Jr., daughter Allie Black (Bresha Webb) and cousin Cronut (Lil Duval) pack up and move to Beverly Hills.

Turns out, Carl couldn’t have picked a worse time to move. They arrive right around the time of the annual purge, when all crime is legal for twelve hours.”

Neutral—As a fan of “The Purge,” I knew I had to see this movie. However, I didn’t know what I was in for. The humor was right up my alley (the equivalent of adult fart jokes), and I got quite a few good chuckles out of it, but, overall, I was glad I went to see it at a dollar theater, rather than a full-blown $13-per-ticket theater. So glad. I’ll put that saved $10 towards the new Purge movie that’s coming out this year.

Language everywhere. I kid you not. I don’t mind profanity at all. In fact, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. But I found myself wishing that they’d just stop cursing, even for 30 seconds, and give me a break from the never-ending torrent of F-bombs and N-words.

Crude sexual humor, one character lusts over another character and it quickly becomes a stupid running gag through the entire movie. No nudity or sexual content. Quite a bit of drug content (Weed in bags in a safe, which is later smoked during the Purge).

They stuck to the original Purge storyline fairly well, which pleased me, but, overall, I left disappointed. My thoughts? You don’t need to see this. It’s humorous, it’s fun to watch, but it’s so blatantly in-your-face offensive that it’s just not worth the 1½ hours to watch it. Do yourself a favor, save the time and money and watch something else.

…an angry and unapologetically gutter-mouthed comedy… ultra low-budget… asinine film…
Jordan Hoffman, The Guardian (UK)
…Mike Epps stars in the unfunniest spoof comedy of the new millennium. Or just this week. …a wrongheaded, utterly incompetent, and nearly laugh-free satire… Purge it quick. …
Keith Uhlich, The Hollywood Reporter
…poor production values… an extremely confusing and sloppily written chunk of “Purge” fan-fiction—a tortured use of another movie’s absurd mythology to help make muddled quasi-satirical points, while indulging the apparently fail-safe punchline of saying the word “purge” about once a minute. …
Jesse Hassenger, A.V. Club
“Meet the Blacks” spoofs “The Purge” with unfortunate results. It’s a comedy in aspiration only. …Movies don’t come much worse…
Sam Eifling, Arkansas Times
…Purge this movie from your must-see checklist… abhorrent… extremely crude and offensive…
