Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “The world's top bodyguard (Reynolds) gets a new client, a hit man who must testify at the International Court of Justice. Unfortunately, the two have been on the opposite ends of their scopes for years and are not too happy about the pairing. But now they have to work together as villains come out of the woodwork to stop the hitman from testifying in the Hague. They must put their differences aside and make it to the trial on time.”

Neutral—…I knew this was going to be filled with cursing from just the star of the movie, HOWEVER I will admit I had a blast watching it and about laughed myself sick here. NO, I am not saying the movie was perfect, by any means, but I did have a very nice time while watching it and that to me is what any kind of movie is made for—just pure joy of enjoyment. I can’t say I recommend this to my fellow Christians, due to swearing and brief nudity, but it was sure a nice way to end the summer movie season on a high note.
My Ratings: Moral rating: Offensive / Moviemaking quality: 3½

Movie Critics
…charismatic stars saddled with seen-it-all-before material… sharper talents behind the camera might have made it considerably more enjoyable…
John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter
…In a film that’s only so-so in the action department, the real fun comes from the incessant bickering between the two stars. …
Peter Debruge, Variety
…Jackson…makes the most of his reputation by giving him plenty of opportunities to utter his favorite cinematic profanity. …Ryan Reynolds shoots, Sam Jackson swears, but “Hitman's Bodyguard” doesn't score… [2/4]
Brian Truitt, USA Today
…The focus is on (often bawdy and profane) character interaction and practical stunts. …a laid-back mix of ultra-violence and almost gentle vulgarity… lackadaisical structure…
Scott Mendelson, Forbes
…some snappy one-liners early on, but their obsession with one another’s love life feels oddly forced into the film’s action. …the film most disappoints for its unwillingness to consistently poke fun of its inherent absurdity. …[1½/4]
Derek Smith, Slant
…a clunker… almost every single laugh comes from someone using the “F” word, that is a problem and that is not comedy…that’s just lazy and unintelligent writing. …
Dustin Heller, Fox59
…falls back on shopworn snark and half-baked bromantic attitudes… technical shoddiness… avoid the painful spectacle of two gifted comic actors looking far more stranded than they should…
Justin Chang, Variety
…the level of visceral violence is a off-putting at points… frenetic… violent, scattershot mayhem…
Pete Hammond, Deadline Hollywood
…The violence is brutal, the body count high… Never finds the energy, chemistry and surprises to thrive. …[2/5]
Ian Freer, Empire [UK]
…This fumbled buddy movie throwback touts some only-here-for-the-money stars as compensation for leaden pacing and a futzing, bum-obsessed script. Any remaining life in its tired set-up…is soon stifled by pointless flashbacks and detours, and a suicidally phlegmy palette.… [2/5]
Mike McCahill, The Guardian (UK)
…lame action-comedy… [1/5]
Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post
…A lazily assembled, thematically ugly stab at a buddy action film that misses nearly every mark… obnoxious, filled with kitschy music, and only digestible to the most undiscerning palates. It’s cinematic dog food.
Clint Worthington, Consequence of Sound
…a corrosively unlikeable, end-of-summer shambles… “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” simply doesn’t put in the effort, with the result that almost every aspect of the film proves wildly irritating, from its central odd couple to the dubious green-screen work that regularly has them pulling nonchalant faces in front of exploding buildings. …[1/5]
Robbie Collin, The Telegraph [UK]
