Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON tells the story of Zak (Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (LaBeouf), a small time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.”

There are 3-4 uses of the “F” word. There was also a time when “Jesus Christ” was used as a curse word. I don’t take this lightly; however, there was also a character in the story who wanted to share about Jesus with people, and he was able to be a help. I thought his character and what he offered in healing and hope helped to offset the use of Jesus” name being taken in vain.
There is a romance between Eleanor (played by Dakota Johnson) and Tyler. She shows some leg in two scenes, while swimming and then sitting on a front porch. There is a kiss shared and that’s it.
Overall, the movie is about redemption and hope. I found it refreshing and I plan to watch it a second time, which I usually never do.
