“The trap is set.”
What do you get when you take Sean Connery and put him together with Catherine Zeta-Jones? Well, you get a pretty good action flick with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Overall, an enjoyable movie but, from a Christian perspective, not recommendable.
Gin Baker (Zeta-Jones) is an insurance investigator who convinces her boss that only she can set the trap to catch legendary gentleman thief Robert “Mac” MacDougal (Connery), by posing as a master thief herself. As their mutual attraction—and distrust—grows, they plan a breathtaking heist on the eve of the new millennium.
“Entrapment” is not one for children or teenagers to see because of the entire premise of the story. The trailers and previews to this movie give great insight into the basic theme of the movie: stealing and getting away with it. If you make it to the theater knowing that the movie is about thieves who keep stealing and getting away with it then you’ve chosen to overlook this major flaw from a Christian perspective: “Thou shalt not steal.” One of the Ten Commandments sent straight from God to His people.
Here is the run-down of the language: 7 “s” words, 3 “h” words, 3 “d” words, 2 “b” words, and 2 “f” words. There were NO uses of God’s name in vain. Gin’s unclothed back is seen twice, and a nude Rembrandt painting is also obvious in the shots. There were, however, no sex scenes, but one instance of sexual innuendo. Gin wears tight clothing, something the camera does not miss. It is in profile angle, though, and brief. There is a scene of gunfire… someone shooting at Mac and Gin… and there are 2 scenes where a knife is put to someone’s throat (and these are for plot line purposes) but there is no one shot or killed in the movie by anyone. There were a couple of scenes where the characters were drinking alcohol, and one man was shown smoking some type of drug.
From a purely entertainment orientation, this movie is a winner with plenty of great acting, plot twists and surprises, and edge-of-your-seat action and adventure. No life lessons to learn, however, so if you enjoy cinema for the morality tales, this one may not be your best choice.
