The Donut Man Episode 4: The Resurrection Celebration

The Donut Man, Duncan and the Donut Repair Club can easily sing their way right into your heart. Children can sing along with the upbeat tunes that are great at reinforcing the story line.

This video begins with the Donut man and 7 children rehearsing an Easter play at church. A secondary plot involves the recent death of Mr. Johnson, a man that used to help out with the rehearsals, along with his wife. As the rehearsal continues, Mrs. Johnson tries to serve joyfully, but is continually reminded of grief for her husband.

The two plots are artfully woven together. As the play rehearsal presents events including Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem, the parable of the mustard seed, the last supper, the crucifixion and Jesus' resurrection, the topics of grieving for a loved one and the promise of eternal life for a believer are gently addressed.

As with every video in this series, the analogy of the donut is used. Without Jesus, we’re like a donut with a big empty space in the middle. Jesus fills the hole in our hearts like a “pastry nugget” in a donut hole.

To present the real meaning of Easter to young children, this is the movie of choice. It specifically mentions that Easter is not about colored eggs and bunnies, but about Jesus' death and resurrection.
