This first episode has helped set a standard of quality computer-animated videos that have made “Veggie Tales” award winners! In fact, Big Idea Productions has only improved in later episodes in their effort to make learning about the Bible and God fun for kids of all ages! This episode deals with an issue that starts with many of us when we are young and doesn’t necessarily go away when we get older… what do we do when we are scared???
The first story is a “Tale from the Crisper”! Junior Asparagus is watching a scary movie on TV about Frankencelery. Junior doesn’t want to admit to his Mom that he is scared so he bravely goes up to his room. Bob and Larry pop in on Junior and share a song with him to help him through his fears. The song is very original and reminds us that God is bigger than ANYTHING else (even the boogieman!). And, more importantly, God cares for us!
The intermission finds Larry the Cucumber bringing a silly song called “The Water Buffalo Song!” A nice break from all the scary stuff.
The second story entitled “Daniel and the Lion’s Den” is a combination of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and Daniel’s bout with the Lions. The bulk of this story is told in musical format, with original (and fun) music and lyrics! This is a great way to learn about the Old Testament and open opportunities to read the Bible with the viewer so that they can learn more about “the rest of the story.”
In summary, don’t miss a single episode of “Veggie Tales”! These classic and entertaining movies will please ALL ages. The computer animation is well-done and on par with “Toy Story”. The music and songs are original and well-done. Most importantly, the messages are Bible-based.
