God, in His Word, prohibits the murder of innocent people (Deu. 19:10). The Ten Commandments given by God to the Israelites says,

“You shall not murder.” —Exodus 20:13 NKJV

If a human law is written that says it is NOT murder to kill a human child, is it still murder in God’s eyes? Of course. Our Creator is the final authority above any human nation, law or king. (See: What is the SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD?)

Speaking to Noah and his descendants, the Creator said,

From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.

“Whoever sheds the blood of [an innocent] man,
by man shall his blood be shed,
for God made man in his own image. —Genesis 9:5b-6 ESV

Biblically and historically, it is certain that the Israelites knew that the human fetus was a child—a person.

In Old Testament Israel, a criminal injury that caused a pregnant woman’s unborn child to die was treated the same as any other murder. If the criminal injury did not kill the fetus, and it was born alive, although premature, the criminal was punished less severely, (Exodus 21:22-25).

The wise King Solomon wrote in Proverbs,

These 6 things the LORD hates,
Yes, 7 are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood… —Prov. 6:16-17 NKJV
