This false god and idol is associated with the heinous sin of child sacrifice.
He was a form of the sun-god worshipped by the inhabitants of Sepharvaim (2 Kings 17:31), and brought by the Sepharvite colonists into Samaria.
The Sepharvite burned their children as offerings to this idol (2 Kings 17:31 NKJV).
