The Enterprise leads a battle for peace—after years of war the Klingons and Federation prepare for a peace summit. When a Klingon ship is attacked and the Enterprise is held responsible, the dogs of war are unleashed once again.
BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE: The Klingons are repeatedly branded “trash” and “animals” by Kirk, the Bible teaches that we should respect others regardless of race or gender. Scott and others are told to lie deliberately, whereas the Bible says that lying is wrong. Kirk eventually gets found out and his earlier (false) accusations against the Klingons are used against him to send him to prison. Kirk escapes from prison, but the truth is eventually discovered and the Romulan plot to sabotage the peace plans is quashed.
Overall, the film paints a picture that justice and truth will prevail regardless of the current circumstances and that peace is more important than individual opinions.
OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOUR: Kirk and crew plus Klingons get drunk on illegal ale, but later (quite rightly) regret it. Several Klingons are killed and scenes of blood and gore accompany this act. There were some profanities in this film but they were surprisingly infrequent. In the prison scene there is mild violence and fighting and one brief instance where Kirk is seduced by one of the aliens.
RECOMMENDATIONS: I would not recommend this film to children due to scenes of violence and intense action. This film could be used by mature Christians as a catalyst for a discussion about the importance of peace between nations and peoples, and ultimately to point people towards the Prince of Peace—Jesus Christ.
