“Some assembly required.”

Sequel: “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015)

A Cosmic Cube or Tesseract with incalculable power in the hands of SHIELD scientists has caught the attention of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his new mysterious benefactor, who has given him even more power, in order to go to Earth and use it to bring an armada of aliens to conquer our world.

Upon arrival, Loki turns or possesses the will of scientist Dr. Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård ) and agent Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), code name Hawkeye, before killing most of the guards and stealing the Cube. This sudden turn of events forces Director of SHIELD Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to assemble Earth’s mightiest heroes to its defense.

This is the film comic book many movie fans have been anticipating for years. The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), the beautiful, but deadly, spy the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the World War II Super Soldier Captain America (Chris Evans), The Mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the unparalleled archer Hawkeye are gathered together to find the Cube and stop Loki, before he rains death upon this world and others.

Objectionable Issues

Language. Mild. The Disney influence on the latest Marvel feature is apparent, as the language has been toned down from recent entries. A** and Pi** were used twice each, but “hell,” bast***d and son of a b**** all appeared but once. The Lord’s name likewise was used but once, as in “Good God, this man’s still alive.” Sexual innuendo was kept to a minimum by having Tony Stark’s girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) whisper something in his ear, but too low for us to overhear. Later Stark mentions something about “performance issues,” but the reference will be missed by younger viewers.

Violence: Moderate—What once was the minimum standard for “R” rated violence has now become the norm for PG-13 films, even by Disney. Daggers, arrows and bullets are all seen hitting people’s heads from a short distance. Explosions, overturning cars, debris and entire buildings and ships crash down on innocent victims throughout. Loki uses his new scepter of power to impale one, and blood is seen as it exits the other side, and though this is one of the few scenes that show blood, it is the most graphic. Equally disturbing is a scene where Loki appears to be extracting someone’s eye. Though bloodless, the victim’s screams, and the crowd’s reaction leave no doubt as to what’s happening. One character goes through withdrawal, and though it’s not from drugs, it is equally wrenching to see.

Sex/Nudity: Minor—Pepper Potts walks around Stark’s penthouse barefoot and in shorts, suggesting they may be living together. Bruce Banner, after reverting from the Hulk back to human form, is naked but obscured by wreckage.

Spiritual—Aside from the references to Thor and Loki being gods, Thor references Darwinist theory when he says, “I thought humans were more evolved than this.” Politically correct themes such as “clean energy” and “torture” are briefly mentioned.

Lessons

While Loki holds a crowd hostage, he tells his “subjects,” “I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose. I come with glad tidings…” a clear biblical reference to a very different kingdom that Jesus spoke of.

And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God… (Luke 8:1).

Loki personifies the Devil, who has always sought to usurp God and be worshiped. Here, Loki commands the crowd to kneel before him, as did Satan when he tempted Jesus.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, “All this will I give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me” (Matthew 4:8-9).

One old man refuses to stay down, which recalls to us our Lord’s response to Satan.

Then said Jesus unto him, “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matthew 4:10).

Loki’s benefactor reminds him that he gave him “…ancient knowledge and new purpose, when you were cast out!” This is very reminiscent of the Word of God, which tells of his downfall and how we must be wary.

“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18).

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like as a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

A lesson on both mercy and forgiveness comes from Thor, when he pleads with Loki to “Give up this poisonous dream and come home.” After all Loki had done, forgiveness was still within reach. Our Lord spoke clearly on this subject when speaking to the apostle Peter.

Then came Peter to him, and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?” And Jesus said unto him, “I say not unto thee, until seven times, but, until seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22).

How great is God’s mercy to us that we shouldn’t likewise show it to our fellow man?

The Black Widow makes the apparent mistake of going to talk to Loki. During their conversation, it becomes clear that Loki knows all about the Widow’s past, when he tells her, “Your ledger is dripping with red. You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers.” This is a tactic the devil often uses to keep us from God, namely our own sinful past. Unfortunately, many fall for this, but the Word of God tells us we don’t have to, no matter what our past holds!

He hath not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the Earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us (Psalms 103:10-12).

The apostle John defines the cleansing of “red from our ledgers” that the Widow was wishing for, that is now available to all of us, as believers.

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

Easily the best line of the movie, for me, came from Captain America. Thor arrives to get Loki, and a battle is about to begin when the Widow warns him not to get involved, saying, “These guys come from legend, they’re basically gods!” And Cap replies, “There’s only one God ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that!”

“I am the LORD thy God… thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:2).

I can’t stress enough that parents need to be extra wary for the violent content which, while partially acceptable in its comic incarnation, is definitely over the top in live action, let alone 3D, which added much during the action scenes.

“The Avengers” lives up to its namesake, and the movie unfolds at an even pace, keeping audiences interested every step of the way. Though made up of disparate characters, all with their own personalities and powers, it was great seeing them begin to work together as a team and under the natural leadership of its only combat veteran, Captain America. An exciting and fun film, marred by a few words and excessive violence, that I am sure will extend the franchise and thrill age-appropriate audiences around the world.

Positive—My wife and I took our 3 children to see this movie. We all thought it was great. There is, of course, a lot of action/violence. This should be expected for a movie based on superheros. Surprisingly, there was very little objectionable language (no “f” or “s” words at all) and, perhaps even more surprising for a big Hollywood movie, there was no nudity or sex of any kind. When Captain America is warned not to get in between Thor and his brother, because they are “gods,” he responds that there is only one God. The movie also has a good amount of humor. I don’t want to spoil it, but the fight between Thor’s brother, Loki, and the Hulk is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in a movie.

Positive—It will be difficult for me to write anything about this movie without overuse of the word AWESOME… but I will do my best. This film had everything I could have asked for in a major superhero flick! It was better than any one of these hero’s solo films. The action was unbelievably cool and fast-paced, yet the art of storytelling was not left in the dust (Michael Bay could take a few notes!). Every character had a good amount of screen time, and a few minor characters from other movies (such as Agent Coulson and the Black Widow) were fleshed out and given bigger parts, as well. I was especially glad that the Black Widow was more likable in this installment, because she didn’t do anything for me in “Iron Man 2.”

I could go on and on about this movie all day but I will try to keep it short; but before I go I also have to mention that Mark Ruffalo did an excellent job as Bruce Banner! For a summer blockbuster, I would say that, though full of the expected amount of violence, this movie was relatively clean. No s-words or f-words that I can recall, and the worst complaint in the sexual department was some of the girls” tight outfits. Okay, just once: The Avengers was awesome, and I loved it!

Positive—What can I say about a movie like “The Avengers”? Well, there’s only one thing to say. Incredible. Just incredible. I loved every aspect of this film. I loved the action, the comedy (yes, the humor was clean and funny, for once), everything! The movie’s plot was simple, yet elegant enough to keep the movie going for two hours. The acting was superb. The music was just right. Like I said, the movie was as close to perfect as it could possibly get. I loved it and can’t wait to add it to my collection when it comes to Blu-Ray and DVD.

Positive—We took our four kids ages 7—14. There were a couple places, in the beginning, where it looked like it was going to be a little too scary for the younger ones, but, that was it. It turned out to be even better than we hoped. It was awesome. Each one of the characters are completely different from one another. And they are very true to their character. The special effects were fantastic. There were so many funny spots in it, including some great lines. I think Tony Starks is the only one who says a couple of mild swear words. As soon as the movie ended, the kids all asked if we could get the DVD.

Positive—“There’s only one God, and I don’t think He dresses like that!”—Not only does this summarize the awesomeness of this film, but surpasses it!! This was an already incredible fun movie, and the fact that they gave the Lord props was a ray of light and hope in this anti-God society that we live in. Wouldn’t it be awesome if God used a super hero film to start to steer this country back to Him!!! Anyway, I won’t go into the details on what made this film awesome, since most of you will probably see for yourself, but I will quote the Highlander film when it comes to the sovereignty of God “There can be only One”

Positive—This is a very easy review. IT WAS AWESOME!! I went in with high expectations, as a Marvel fan, and came out BLOWN AWAY! It was funny, it was clean, and it was the best movie of the Heroes series, by FAR! Even if you have no knowledge of the series or heroes, it would still be great. A must see for everyone.

Positive—A great movie for this generation. In the midst of all the high tech action, it is filled with nobility, trust, overcoming personal shortcomings for the sake of good, self-sacrifice, working with those with differing attitudes, toward the common goal of right, courage and perseverance, in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds (evil coming in like a flood). The producers did not rely on immorality to “entice” or gratify the viewers. Capt. America even corrects a statement made by countering “there is only One God.”

Positive—I bet this will be one of the best movies of the summer. Lots of action, thoroughly entertaining, funny, and very little (if any) profanity and sexual imagery. Although the movie is based on the false premise of aliens and demigods, it didn’t seem to try to push any agendas like Evolution or environmentalism. It is very rare these days to have a movie like this, where you don’t have to feel like you’ve been repeatedly slapped in the face and need a bath after watching, because you’ve had to sit through so many sex scenes and curse words.

One thing that impressed me was how Captain America expressed his old fashioned belief that there is only one God and wasn’t ridiculed for doing so. This is probably going to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer, and one that’s good enough to see more than once. Hopefully Hollywood will take note of the formula that [good movie—unnecessary use of sex and profanity = big hit]. This is definitely one for all, except for maybe the very young.

P.S.—I wouldn’t waste the extra money it takes to see it in 3D, because I read somewhere that the movie was redone in 3D, after it was completed. As I suspected, it resulted in little more than a slight perception of depth in some of the scenes.

Positive—“The Avengers” was a brilliant movie, well made and written and top-notch acting by all involved. I counted only 4 swear words (SOB, C word), no nudity or sex scenes or sexual references, some of the female’s uniforms were tight-fitting, but not overly so, the violence is heavy, but most of it is CGI and action violence, and fairly bloodless. As far as I could hear, there were no Lord’s Name in vain. An excellent movie!

Positive—While I wouldn’t take my children, one being 2 months from age 14, to the theaters to watch this, I will buy this movie and watch on the TV Guardian to catch the language, albeit brief. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and thought it brought together the characters with great writing, great directing and the comical acting was above par. There was almost non-stop action, and the comedy was placed at just the right times!! I enjoyed the tiny references by Captain America about there only being one God and Iron Mans reference to Jonah and the Whale… I know they didn’t teach these stories, but they didn’t shy from using them. It is a great fantasy, escape from your everyday work, and relax kinda movie. 10 out of 10!!!

Positive—Movie was epic. Steve Rogers supporting our true God was incredible. Every character had flaws but came together. The action is out of this world, perhaps a bit to much for younger children. Every hero had strong qualities that comes out by the end of the film. Best comic book movie ever.

Positive—Ok, not too many movies I go to the theater and see twice. I did, and I am ready to go again. This movie has to be one of my all time greats. THE AVENGERS is a great story line and is funny and is action packed. Now, first time I saw I saw in 3D second in 2D. Because of the incredible special effects, I say see it in 3D or IMAX; you will be amazed. CAPTAIN AMERICA—HULK- GREEN ARROW- BLACK WIDOW- IRON MAN and THOR can team up again. I just hope they can continue what they started.

Positive—I was able to sneak under the radar and see this opening day in the afternoon before the reviews hit. The audience was just mesmerized, as was I. Lots of audience reaction and participation. Huge applause at the end. I have not felt such an engaging time in a movie in a very long time. There was a moment in the midst of battle with Hulk flying over head and action in every quadrant that I was transported right into the comic book (okay… movie!) Just amazing filming. I usually go for the 3D for the few bucks more. I was a big Marvel fan as a kid and this just filled some wonderful childhood memories of getting lost in comic books. I’m going to have to see this one again! Let’s just hope Hollywood puts the money into good uplifting projects.

Lynn C Stahlecker, age 58 (USA)
Positive—As a devout Marvel Comic super heroes fan I must say this is the best movie of the genre. Each super hero is given a fair time of screen play and there are also the epic match ups: Thor vs. Hulk, Captain America vs. Iron Man… with the characters evenly matched and the fight sequences and dialogs near identical to the comic book series by Stan Lee. After these classic battles of strength and wit (often very funny) with one another, this band of super heroes unites to take on the common enemy.

Christian audiences will also love Captain America’s die hard patriotism and unwavering statements of religious faith. He isn’t the most powerful or strongest Avenger but Captain America is the most courageous and uses his leadership skills to unite The Avengers together. Some of the best performances come from Tom Hiddleston as Loki. In Norse mythology, Loki is the god of strife, deceit, mischief, and the most base evil. In the film, Loki epitomizes all these traits very well, and The Avengers must use each of their unique powers and skill sets to defeat this diabolical villain. It is a great movie which drives home the importance of teamwork while still respecting a person’s individuality. See all »

Positive—…Originally I had some reservations about this movie, I thought too many superheroes will spoil the film and particularly interested a Norse “god” like Thor in the film, but it turns out writer—director Joss Whedon is the real superhero who saved the film, instead of being just another Hollywood special effect extravaganza, Whedon elevated the movie into something profoundly human, inspiring and managed to entertain everyone.

First of all, he gave respect to each character, treating equally and with great lines. There was a lot of laughter in the theater, he made the superheroes more human than the usual movie portrayals. The best of all, the director had the courage not to follow the secular-politically correct charade by writing the great line, when Black Widow warns about Loki and Thor being “legends” and “gods,” Captain America replied calmly, “There’s only one God, ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that…” The movie is nothing short of AWESOME, loved the 3D (2D won’t be bad, either), awaiting for the DVD release so I can own a copy…

Cyril Thomas, age 32 (United Kingdom)
Positive—Good storytelling! There was great spacing between the different hero’s introductions, and the casting was excellent. The way the Black Widow escapes her captors early in the movie is a terrific fight sequence. Through the movie, there is friction between the various victors, and it makes one wonder what would unite them. One scene I particularly liked was when Loki (the obvious personification of the devil) threatened everyone to bow before him. Then a lone man stands in refusal to submit, just as Jesus did when tempted by the devil. There were a few other Biblical ideals in the film I enjoyed. It’s already been mentioned how Captain America said “There is only one God, and I doubt He dresses like that” (referring to Thor and Loki). There is also a reference to Jonah during a battle sequence.
The highlight of the movie is the climax when one offers his life to save humanity. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 KJV With all of the Biblical references, low profanity (I only remember 1 d--- and 1 h---) and no nudity, this was a real treat. I’ll be watching for the next Joss Whedon film with great anticipation.

Positive—This movie was just so much fun! It’s action-packed and laugh-out-loud funny, with good triumphing over evil, excellent acting, and an engaging story line. Also, for the most part, it was family-friendly (some violence might be too much for young children). I very much enjoyed it, and I do not generally watch superhero films. Definitely worth seeing!

Positive—My boyfriend and I agree our favorite part of the movie is when Captain America speaks to a woman after she says Thor is like a God (after saving people). Captain America replies “There is only one God and I don’t believe he dresses like that”. I have to admit, for such a mainstream movie, I would never expect a comment like that to make the cut! Thank goodness it did! It was almost a relief! Great movie.

Positive—You forgot to mention in your review a key thing said by Captain America! When Black Widow tells the Captain that Loki and Thor are gods, the Captain replies: “Ma’am there is only one God, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that!” Captain America is a great character, and we see him many times upholding good Christian values!

Positive—This review is for the benefit of those trying to decide whether or not to take young children. We took our boys, 6 and 3, after reading the reviews here in full. We were aware of the extreme violence, but with no little girls in our circle of friends, our boys are accustomed to “cartoon violence”. They’re being raised to act as gentlemen, I can assure you! My 3 year old absolutely LOVED the movie! He was “fist-fighting the air” in all the action scenes and has decided that Hulk is his favorite character. My 6 year old (with Asperger’s and SPD) was a little more hesitant, but enjoyed the movie after I explained that none of it was real, and it was indeed made on a movie set, not an actual city/ship/etc.

THE BAD: Parts of the movie were a bit slower than others (for a kid), and there were a couple of comments in the movie (sexual or alcoholic in nature) that I feel should’ve been left out entirely. There is one scene where Hulk turns back into a (presumably naked) man. I feel too much skin was revealed, but most probably don’t. I don’t know the back-story of the female character, but she didn’t contribute anything to the movie other than a skin-tight outfit.

THE GOOD: You don’t miss much when having to take a 3 year old to the restroom twice. The movie is fairly predictable, however the humor is not. I loved the quick-thinking humor punches throughout the movie! Captain America was a breath of fresh air, too. I’m not familiar with his back-story, but from this movie, I can tell he’s an upstanding sort of gentleman character who believes in God (as he states in the movie).

If your younger children are used to “cartoon violence” (classic Looney Tunes) and fantasy/action movies (Star Wars), they’ll probably love this movie. If they’re used to modern cartoons where guns and bombs have been replaced by flashlights and cream pies, they won’t like this one.

Positive—My 24 year old son and I enjoyed the movie very much. I would not recommend for children under 13. It has a lot of action, but vibes are good. I like the way it depicted the struggle between good and evil. Additionally it facilitates a dialog with your teen or young adult that could help them understand that as a Christian, doing the right thing is sometimes hard, but definitely worth the effort.

Positive—I went and saw this movie the day after it came out. I was totally blown away. From the very start to the very end of the film, I don’t think I ever stopped laughing. The cast for all the heroes were just perfect. I can’t imagine Robert Downey Jr. not playing Iron Man. He plays the role so perfect. There is a little bit of language in the film and moderate on the violence. All in all, it was a great film, and I would highly recommend it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Positive—I must say, this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The perfect mix of story, action and effects. Very rarely will a studio take years to develop all of the characters and weave a plot together like Marvel did here. I did take my two boys to see the movie (ages 7 and 4), and they loved it. The violence was cartoon-like, and even though there was a lot of action, the violence was subdued. The sexuality was also subdued, compared to what you see on TV every day.

Honestly, if you let your kids watch baseball or football, there is WAY more sexual content during the commercials than in this movie. The story was fantastic—especially for those who are big Marvel fans. They were true to the characters, and each one was interesting and had an important role in the movie. This movie made me look forward to “Thor II,” “Iron Man III” and, naturally—“The Avengers II”!! I’m not sure they could have done a better job ! If I could give it 6 starts, I would.

Positive—“The Avengers” came as a very nice surprise for me. I would go as far as to say this is one of the best movies Hollywood has come out with for a long time. “The Avengers” has no sexuality in it. There is some violence, but the typical action you’d expect to see in a superhero movie. I thought this was a really great movie, and I think any Christian should feel comfortable viewing it. I really liked it. And on an artistic perspective, the movie was very well made. I loved certain themes in the movie. I love how Thor continually reached out to Loki, showing him mercy/forgiveness. When I saw it in the theaters, it reminded me of how God extends mercy on us, especially when we least deserve it.

***SPOILER*** Also, a dying agent tells Loki he won’t win, because he “lacks conviction”. I thought it was an interesting thing to hear from a Hollywood movie. You could use that as a springboard for discussion after taking your kids or friends. Why is it important to have conviction? Why is it important to know what’s right from wrong? ***END SPOILER***See all »

Positive—I saw this movie with my dad, we both thought it was great. To the reviewer that hated The Hulk naked, so what. He’s a big guy, no clothes would fit him, and he was covered by rubble—not fully nude. Also, to the reviewer complaining about Black Widow kicking the Archer’s behind, ever heard of the Amazons, the biblical judge Debra, or the lady that killed a man with a tent peg after the man (a gentile) was asleep when her husband was not home? Women can be just as tough as men, when the need arises.

Positive—…several of the comments down in the negative section are overzealous and (for lack of a better word) extremely exaggerated. I understand that people make their own meaning from movies, but there’s a difference between reasonable inference and stretching the facts to fit a certain perception. I find a lot of those comments down below to be offensive and ignorant, not to mention sexist—that last bit being in regards to the comment made by one individual claiming that because a woman battled on even ground with a man and won, the movie is somehow feminist Hollywood trash. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but the attitude with which some commenters have regarded this movie paints Christians (and indeed, mainstream Christianity of the modern era) in an unattractive, off-putting light. Sometimes, ladies and gentleman, a movie is just a movie—and there’s not much more to read into it than that.

For someone to say that Loki is the personification of evil, or the Devil himself, is highly unrealistic. Yes, I understand the horned helmet does call to mind some visceral imagery, but the presence of horns no more makes Loki the Devil then the presence of wings on Thor’s helmet makes him an angel. The comics and the Nordic mythology dictated those character designs—not the cast, not the crew and not the Devil. See all »

Positive—I had been wanting to see blockbuster “The Avengers.” I was a fan of the movie “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey, so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. “The Avengers” was an action packed movie with plenty of explosions, clever and clean dialog, and all around fun. The fight scenes between Hulk, Thor and the gang were spectacular. The violence in this movie was not over the top, like some movies. This is a great family movie, however, the aliens might be scary for little ones. so use your discretion when watching.

Neutral—I’m not a big comic book superheroes fan (anymore), so the whole concept was never likely to move me much. Yet, I have enjoyed several movies of the genre—Spiderman and the Dark Knight films come to mind. This one was too much of a… good thing, I guess. The multiple superheroes gives them all a chance to show off their special stuff, with a little interpersonal banter and rivalry to boot, but it struck me as a special movie for an audience of either enthusiasts or ten year olds. I just didn’t find it very interesting.

Negative—I cannot believe this movie got a better than average. Loki is a clear depiction of the devil, and in everything he says takes a punch at the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. In this movie, he is depicted with two horns, and like the author of the review said, says very offendable stuff. The risk, in my humble opinion, is that this paves the way for the devil to be portrayed as a fictional individual, or, if one believes that he exists, a individual that we as mortals can only be saved from by a team of superheroes. Yes, the movie is fictional, but it draws from Biblical truths, which are warped slightly to desensitize Christians. I shall pray for the cast and production members.

Negative—This is just a small comment, as I was not able to review the whole movie. My husband and I took our 8 year old daughter and felt the violence was too much. I will have to agree with the review that the violence is somewhat extreme. While it does not show blood in the beginning, that I remember, it is still extreme. I personally felt uncomfortable exposing my daughter to that much violence… and that was just in the beginning of the movie. …My daughter was equally uncomfortable, so we walked out after the first 20 min. I would just use caution for your children or maybe watch it at home first before exposing. Okay, no wonder… heard it was PG and just read the rating for PG-13, and it said intense sequence of violence. Now I know why.

Negative—Another feminist movie from Hollywood of women kicking the rear out of all men, including robots from another world. I wanted to walkout when she beat the living day lights out of another man with the arrows. Roll reversals stink. Hollywood is showing all our young boys that women can kick the living day lights out of them. Not so. I hated this movie for that alone. Only good comment, they mention a couple of positive things, in a round about manner, about the true and living God.

Negative—Yes, I am a Follower of Jesus Christ, and, so, my view point will be from that perspective. While the quality of the movie was first rate, the movie just loses something when the “heroes” of the movie are using such foul language that you wouldn’t use yourself, or permit others to use in your home; yet, for the sake of entertainment, we allow it in our living rooms. We are told not to let corrupt communication proceed out of our mouths. Enough said on that matter.

In the first “Iron Man” movie, his then assistant was modestly dressed. You knew she had a crush on him, and that the feeling was mutual, however, in this film, they had her in a pair of Daisy Duke shorts and first several buttons unbuttoned on her top and an implication that they were living together. That’s sad… and disturbing. The other woman who is training to be a spy, they had dressed in a low cut black somewhat provocative dress… only to have her hands bound and feet tied apart to the chair… and then they bend the chair back to where she feels like they’re going to tip it and let it go. Was that really necessary to the movie?

…I would not take my children to see this movie… especially in the movies. I may rent it, with a TV Guardian attached to my TV and know when to hit “next” on the remote to skip the parts that are not appropriate. Better yet, perhaps investing in a unit called “Clear Play” which not only takes out foul language, but also nudity (such as Hulk after he lands with no clothes on and show much more than they needed to) or sex, or anything like that. I realize we all have our own convictions concerning such matters, however, this was offensive to me for the above reasons from a Biblical standpoint.

Negative—Hollywood has been promoting GNOSTICISM since a long time. And Gnosticism is a belief system promoted by Satan, where good is evil and evil is good. Which, very simply put means Jesus is evil and Satan is good. With that in mind, Loki is clearly portrayed as Jesus Christ, only evil. This is established when he “comes to Earth” and says that he brings “glad tidings”… but these glad tidings is actually bondage, that’s what the Gnostics accuse the God of the Bible for, that is, enslave humans, when in actuality Christ to came us free. The movie begins with the pseudo Holy Spirit praying to the pseudo Father and describing that the humans will burn. That’s accusing God of being just about Hell.See all »

Negative—I do not agree with some of the other commenters that say the movie should have a “morally offensive” rating due to Loki being “very evil”. Last I checked, that’s how “SUPER VILLAINS” are supposed to be! However, I strongly disliked the movie. It was extremely formulaic, and the fight at the end was just… weak. The acting was average. Robert Downey Jr. had too many funny lines, and they started to get on my nerves. As for Chris Evans, it was clear they were trying to give him “cool” one-liners, but those didn’t work out.

As for the character of the “Hulk,” it makes no sense that he can’t control it, going insane, trying to kill people, but then at the end of the movie, he can suddenly manage and control it. Even talk! See all »

Negative—I would never let my family see such a demonic movie as this!!! The violence and witchcraft is appalling. We as Followers of the Cross are NEVER to bow down to anyone but Jesus Christ, the Great I AM. Please read 1 Cor. 6:7-11 and Galatians 5:19-23. Witchcraft and Idolatry were what brought down the ancient Hebrews. May the Great I AM forgive anyone who sees this film. This movie will bring many “Christians” down the Broad Road of Destruction!!! The evil language in this film is just as disturbing. Think about it for a minute, is not The Hulk thing just a demonic monster?? Do not be deceived, the Great I AM is not to be mocked!! We are to be careful of what “entertains” us.

Also, understand that the villain Loki is a god of joking. Thus, when you see this movie, the Enemy of all of us is laughing at those he is bringing to destruction by seeing this filth!! Please Brothers and Sisters of the Cross, watch something else or just stay home!!! …We as Followers of the Cross must guard our hearts and keep them pure. Jesus Christ wants our hearts and if our hearts are polluted how can he have our hearts or even see it if we watch such filth?

Positive—I just wanted to take a moment to respond to Christopher West. …C.S. Lewis was a Christian author who wrote FANTASY novels like The Chronicles of Narnia—a book that had large creatures (sometimes “scary” looking ones) that sometimes did good. These things are works of the imagination, not works of the devil. …

Positive—I went to the theater with very low expectations, expecting it to be super cheesy. I was wrong. The movie was extremely well done, with great graphics, acting, directing, and comic relief. I LOVED it! I especially loved Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Definitely the best Bruce Banner, to date. Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. also had wonderful performances. There was hardly any bad content other then a few skimpier outfits worn by Black Widow and a scene where Hulk is shown “nude” (Nothing is seen, at all). I would definitely recommend it.

Positive—…I really enjoyed it! I’d seen the “Captain America” movie and had been waiting for “The Avengers” ever since. I went to see it with high hopes, and I believe the movie met those hopes. There was little language, my dad and I counted 3 profanities in total (I counted one SOB and one b***d). There was one scene near the beginning where the Black Window is tied in a chair in her underwear (thankfully, it is fairly modest) and also a few things implied between Iron Man and his girlfriend.

From a Christian viewpoint, there might be some offensive material when there is a bit of talk about “gods,” seeing as one of the main heroes, and the main villain are both considered “gods”. But I was extremely pleased with Captain America’s line of “There’s only one God, and I don’t think He dresses like that!” and then later on the Hulk’s phrase of “puny god”. It does not focus on this too much. Otherwise, the greater view is that they are just people from another dimension.

The violence is fairly full on, but isn’t too gory. A couple of stabbings, some shootings, as well as other sorts of other violence, but there is usually so much happening you don’t really get a chance to take much in. Also, at some points they make things comical when everything seems pretty tense. I really enjoyed the Hulk’s little confrontation with Loki, but I won’t say anymore than that. …

It did get confusing, at times, having multiple main characters, and I only REALLY knew Captain America’s back story, but I think I grasped most of it, in the end. So, if you aren’t bothered by the mythical characters, Thor and Loki, and you are looking for an action/war movie that has its funny moments. Go see it! I’ll definitely be buying this on DVD!

Positive—This was a great movie! It was so fun seeing all those characters together, and working together (at the end…). I had seen all the other movies of the individual heroes, except for Captain America (but would like to see it), and I think Mark Ruffalo did a very good job as The Hulk. And the lesson Tony Stark learned, at the end. Overall, a really, really good movie.

Positive—This film is awesome! I can’t believe Captain America said “there is only one God,” and the language in it is unoffensive, and there are plenty of funny parts. Any negative comments that person did not see the film or saw a little of it

Positive—Overall, this was a great movie. The only objectionable content was language, but for being a PG-13 movie, there was only a small amount. “The Avengers” was extremely funny, and I enjoyed it. The cast is superb and all fit their characters nicely.

Positive—I loved it. It was EXTREMELY awesome. It was SO funny—like the part when Iron Man meets Thor and says, “”What is this Shakespeare in the park? Doth mother know your’re wearing her drapes?” I like the part when the Hulk beats the tar out of Loki.

Positive—I loved it! It was AWESOME. Every bit of it was AWESOME. The best part of it was after Iron Man says that Thor is a demi god and Captain America responds and says there’s only one God, and I don’t think He dresses like that. It was great!

Positive—I’m sick and tired of everyone saying Loki is a depiction of the devil. Read the comics or educate yourself in Norse/Scandinavian mythology before you go harping on a movie you obviously know nothing about. Yes, Loki is the God of Mischief. Yes, he is evil. Yes, he does wear the Satanic horns, even in the myths, to represent his evilness. But read the comics, and you know that Loki does do good, even joining the Avengers at one point. This offers a strong opportunity for a redemption storyline that many of fans, including me, very much want to see in future films. Loki was never meant to be “the” devil. He was meant to be a villain. …

Positive—I believe “The Avengers” is one of the finest and most exemplary movie I have ever seen. While I watched “The Avengers,” it encouraged me to act more courageous. The heroism displayed throughout the movie is inspirational. They included only a few immoral words and the farthest sensuality went was in Black Widow’s tight suit. Cap. America was a remarkable character with amazing script. I recommend it for ages 11+. Outstanding and marvelous movie!!!

Positive—I loved “The Avengers”! There were a few swears, but I think It was better than a lot of superhero movies. There are a couple of funny parts. I think kids that get scared easily should not see this. It is a little creepy when Loki brainwashes Hawkeye and Dr. Selvik. But I do look forward to seeing the 2nd Avengers in a couple years.

Positive—Saw this movie opening day and did not leave disappointed. Surprisingly clean, unlike the “Iron Man” movies. …A great film for superhero lovers. Yet, there is a lot on language. Funny smart and fast paced, not boring. The plot was not to clever, but still interesting. I loved Loki. It should be fine for 9 and up.
